Got my hands on a copy of Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, the latest animated film from DC, and I can definitively say it is by far the best movie DC has released under its DC Universe Animated Original Movies line.
I’m not going to discuss the plot here in case some of you plan on watching it, but it centers on The Flash, Barry Allen, which is quite unusual for DC movies (you know, Batman and Superman are the proven cash cows), but thanks to the brilliant story by writer Geoff Johns (originally published as a comic book limited series entitled Flashpoint), Paradox demonstrated how a movie starring The Flash could work both as animated and live-action.
I’m not even a fan of The Flash but the movie may have persuaded me otherwise. Paradox is the most action-packed and most violent animated movie DC has ever released but its violence is not gratuitous. On the contrary, it served to demonstrate the grave consequences of a metahuman war in DC’s universe. Aside from the “grittiness,” Paradox also sends a good message and it’s satisfyingly emotional but not in a cheesy way like many of these films are.
I was so impressed by it that I just had to draw the fan art above in my sketchbook. It was drawn using a reference photo of a sprinter and several pictures of The Flash. The suit is actually a hodgepodge of costumes because I picked features that I liked from several incarnations of The Flash.
Hope you like this one! I’m giving Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox 5 out of 5 stars, so watch it! It won’t disappoint!
