Blue Sky Heisenberg

I finally finished my first major traditional media art project since God knows when. It’s the first of many I plan to do in the coming days and what better way to kick things off than to draw one of my most favorite characters of all time, Walter White AKA “Heisenberg.”

Like a lot of people, I’m eagerly crossing out days in the calendar ’til Breaking Bad returns for its final run on August 11, 2013. I’m aware that some people are actually annoyed at Breaking Bad fans always talking about how it’s the best show there is, but, well, let me just say it once again that it IS. Ok, maybe it’s tied with Game of Thrones at the top spot but other than GoT, Breaking Bad is untouchable!

As you can see, this fan art shows Walter made up of the nasty stuff he’s famous for–Blue Sky, which is supposedly 99.1% pure crystal meth. To draw this one, I first had to draw the basic features of Walter using a reference photo. At this point, it’s not that important to get a perfect reproduction of the image. I just had to get an idea of it’s size and shape and where all the features go.

As I went along, I made corrections here and there until I was satisfied with the frame. Then I used colored pencils to create the Blue Sky effect, following the natural lines and contours of actor Bryan Cranston’s face. Added some shading with a sharpie and voila–Blue Sky Heisenberg is done!

The good thing with traditional art is you always have a hard copy, which you can show or give to people. I’m seriously thinking about offering this Breaking Bad fan art as some sort of a giveaway when Frustrashow’s Facebook page hits a hundred fans. πŸ™‚
