Raise your hand if you’re like me and you’re one of the unfortunate ones who couldn’t go to San Diego Comic Con 2015 because you had no chance of going there anyway! As a hardcore DC fan, I’m supremely jealous of everyone who got to see firsthand all the amazing stuff DC showed at the con, especially the newest trailer of Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice, which I have watched around 50 times already since it was uploaded online. But it doesn’t mean I never supported my fandom–no, sir or ma’am! In fact, I produced a torrent of DC fan art to support my brothers and sisters at SDCC.

First up: a happy, smiling Batman. I woke up a few days ago just thankful for all the good things happening at the con and my life, so I drew this on my iPad. I’m not gonna lie–I took inspiration from Yale Stewart’s incredible JL8 fan Web comic about DC heroes in elementary school. I just want to have this pic on my phone, so I could look at it whenever I feel down. I bet it’ll help better the mood a lot. 🙂

Next, we have Superman, one of my finer portraits of him, I think. I actually drew this after a really bad day when everything didn’t seem to go my way. I just had to release all that stress out, so I started scribbling stuff on my sketchbook. I think this was the third attempt at a drawing; before this, I was drawing Danny Zuko from Grease (of all people) but I just couldn’t get him right. I stepped back, chose to play to my strengths and decided to sketch Supes. If I remember correctly, his aged look here is kind of spot on because I was looking at several references, including one by the god of superhero painting, Alex Ross.

It’s been raining cats and dogs here in the Philippines for the past week because of two typhoons that coursed through the country. Since everything was wet, I thought it was the best time to draw a Justice Leaguer I have never drawn before–Arthur Curry AKA Aquaman. So here he is–with a friendly dolphin (in the sea, obviously, not in some dumb ocean park). This is the ’90s version of Aquaman with a metallic right side and a spear for an arm; his most badass iteration, in my opinion.

Ok, this one’s the latest illustration I finished, inspired by the amazing leaked Comic Con trailer of 2016’s Suicide Squad. The few seconds of Jared Leto in that footage saying, “I’m not gonna hurt you. I’m just gonna hurt you really, really bad.” was enough to send me into hysterics, so I made this Batman vs Joker fan art to let some of the geek energy out. I love how this turned out because I virtually sketched the pose from scratch and it really felt great drawing by pure instinct. I had several muscle references though and I even took shots of my hands and arms just to make sure I was at least close to being realistic. This is one of those pieces that I wished I could color or add backgrounds to.

I was going to make this drawing at some point, and I finally had the perfect opportunity with the release of the latest trailer for Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice. What can I say? There are no words to describe the feeling of seeing the three most iconic comicbook superheroes in a movie trailer together for the first time. It just blew my mind and I keep wishing it were 2016 already, so I could plunk down in a chair at the cinema with my popcorn and watch the hell out of that movie. This illustration will have to do for now since we still have months to go before we could witness geek history. The truth is, there are many things I’d like to tweak about this drawing but there’s plenty of time to produce more trinity fan art; I’m just gonna hold back my itch for doing something over and draw something like this again soon.

BONUS! I couldn’t let this idea in my head pass when both Jurassic World and Terminator: Genisys absolutely rocked. I can’t think of a more fearsome killer in a film than a terminator velociraptor! Hey, Hollywood–how about making a movie about this beast? 🙂
